If you try to sort through the clutter of fact and fiction surrounding climate change, much of what you hear and read is all too often seen through the distorted lenses of “believers” and “deniers”. Believers approach climate change with the glazed over ferver of religious zealots. Ever try to have a rational conversation with a true believer? Now there’s an oxymoron. Deniers on the other hand, while they give off an entirely different vibe, are just as vested in their own earnest beliefs that climate change is a fabricated hoax.
Should you turn to the popular media for perspective, few in the media are qualified to grasp, let alone intelligently debate, the complexities of climate science. All too often what we do hear is a dumbed down and highly politicized version of the facts that rarely rises to that mythical standard of “fair and balanced”.
I’m not a climate scientist nor have I studied the factual record on climate change up close and personal. Frankly, I don’t feel particularly well qualified. Fortunately, others have. The following is the first of four video clips produced by an Australian geologist who has spent considerable time and effort to produce an informative overview of climate change that is largely lacking in spin, hype, or politics but is instead long on science. I highly recommend you spend a few minutes watching this clip. I’ll be post the remaining 3 clips soon. Enjoy!
