In my most recent post, I made it clear that I’m 100% in favor of drilling for,  and pumping up, every last blessed drop of oil we can afford to get our hands on domestically in lieu of importing that same oil. I won’t repeat my rationale here, but I just want to be crystal clear about that when you read what comes later in this post.

Also in my last post (We Can’t Drill Our Way Out), I pointed out that impartial data and analysis clearly shows that no matter how much we drill, we can’t drill our way to energy (oil) independence. There is as strong a consensus around that from experts within the energy industry, including the U.S. Department of Energy, as you’re likely to get on anything relating to our energy future (don’t confuse strong consensus with unanimous agreement – some believe we never landed on the moon, the holocaust never happened…you get the picture).

American News Project (“ANP”) was formed in May 2008 by a group of highly esteemed award winning journalists (if you’re a conservative please substitute “liberal media elite” for that last part). ANP is inspired by what Joseph Pulitzer wrote more than 130 years ago: “Always fight for progress and reform, never tolerate injustice or corruption, always fight demagogues of all parties, never belong to any party, always oppose privileged classes and public plunderers, never lack sympathy with the poor, always remain devoted to the public welfare… always be drastically independent, never be afraid to attack wrong, whether by predatory plutocracy or predatory poverty.”

Sounds like Mr.  Pulitzer was quite a guy. Let’s call him Joe the Publisher since Joes are popular currently. Now Joe the Publisher and his competitor Randolph Hearst did get a bit carried away in the late 1800′s with their down market yellow journalism. But Joe the Publisher did good by posthumously establishing schools of journalism… and the coveted Pulitzer Prize…all of which survive through to today. But I digress.

ANP recently put together a video (see below) that specifically addresses the widely held view that we can’t drill our way out to energy independence. But of course, there are some who still insist on telling the U.S. public that the opposite is true. Whether through ignorance or deceit, we deserve better from our leaders. Perhaps that will start to correct soon enough.
